Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire

An elegant carriage from 1959, The PUD is one of 56 or so remaining from the 902 made by Armstrong Siddeley Motors at Parkside, Coventry.

 

Finished in two tone black over cream this impressive car has a sumptuous red leather interior with matching carpets and walnut veneers. Totally original.

 

The car is wonderfully comfortable and offers a chance to enjoy what the rich and successful drove in the early 1960’s. The car won interior of the year at the Earls Court motor show.

 

The rear seats have a generous amount of room and an armrest. In times gone by, small children used this as their own special seat.

 

The Star Sapphire was the last model made by Armstrong Siddeley in their 41 years, they ceased production a mere 262 cars after PUD. Being true to the time there are no seat belts or air-conditioning. These weren’t even an option.

 

This is a1960’s gentlemans carriage. Seats five in comfort, four in luxury. Interior is original red leather in good condition. Seats are very comfortable. A big imposing vehicle which is very original.

 

Powered by a 3990cc straight six petrol engine of Armstrong’s own design it has an automatic gearbox, servo assisted brakes and power steering.

A head turner if every there was one. Not perfect but who is? A slice of history.

I started Cool Camper Weddings in August 2016 after being made redundant from working for a large corporate company for 14 years, I decided to do something a little different. My husband and I have owned a 1972 VW bay window for approx 13 years (Bertie bus) and have had many a happy adventure in him.  I decided that it would be great to have a job working with VW's and so hence the wedding transportation business was born after purchasing Rita in June of 2016.  I absolutely love driving Rita and also enjoy the admiring glances and smiles she raises from people as you drive by. For me, to be part of such a special happy occasion for two people is an amazing feeling!

Rita is our stunningly beautiful 1966 VW split screen camper and she is absolutely perfect for wedding transportation. She was imported from California in 2011 and was refurbished specifically to be a wedding vehicle. We purchased Rita from a gentleman in Manchester who had been doing weddings but due to ill health had to sell. Once we had taken delivery of Rita we decided that she had to be completely safe to transport the happy couple so we changed the drum brakes to disc brakes for safety and we invested in some Porsche pattern Fuch X5 alloys. We understand that apart from Rita needing to be in absolute tip top condition aesthetically, she also needs to be in tip top condition mechanically and so we have an amazing VW expert locally who specialises in restoring and maintaining VW camper vans and is on hand for anything that needs looking at.

 

Bertie...orange 1972 type 2 bay window

 

Bertie is our 1972 type 2 bay window. Bertie was built in the Wolfsburg factory in Germany sometime in July 1972 and imported to the UK in August 1972. He spent most of his life around Keyworth in Nottingham. We acquired Bertie in May 2004 at the VW show at Stamford Hall from a VW enthusiast. We have had some excellent holidays in Bertie bus but he has taken a bit of a back seat since children came along. We have always kept him in tip top condition and in the last couple of years had him re-upholstered and towards the end of 2016 we had the Porsche Fuch wheels added so that he matched Rita. Bertie can also be used for wedding transportation.
